ESGR, an agency within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve component members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment. Employers may sign a statement of support, and reservists may recognize their employers with a "My Boss is a Patriot" award to show appreciation for support and cooperation with an employee's reserve status.
