WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, Mass ? TSgt. Christopher W. Davis a Sheet Metal Specialist in the Isochronal (ISO)Dock, works on replacing a damaged section of a C-5?s wing while below three Airman from the 445th Airlift Wing, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio work on securing the sheet metal section from the inside of the wing. The Ohio Airman are here for a few weeks for training on the C-5 airframe by the Westover maintainers, while their unit makes the conversion from C-141s to the C-5 Galaxy. This is the first C-5 to be put through the rigorous Westover inspection under the new label of Regional ISO Center.

439th Airlift Wing
MSgt. Thomas Pitts, NCOIC of the 439th Maintenance Squadron's Non-destructive inspection stands over the support bracket basting in the penetrant chemicals, which will reveal any cracks or defects in the metal before being put on the C-5.
A blue-wax test model of the support bracket is being held by TSgt. Richard Towlson, assistant NCOIC of the Machine shop and at his feet is the 100 lb. block of metal, that is similar to the one used to make the bracket.
Blue prints being checked and re-checked by TSgt. Richard Towlson making sure the elevator support bracket is machined to the exact specifications. This newest Westover manufactured part will make the oldest C-5A in the fleet fully mission capable once again.
