Honoring a Marine
Melissa B. Chapin and Col. Barrye Price unveil a memorial for Chapin's husband, Marine Sgt. Canaan Alicandro, May 7 at the Military Entrance Processing Station at Westover. Colonel Price, commander of the Easterm Sector, United States Military Entrance Command, joined Lt. Cdr. Johnny Bowen, MEPS commander, and Sergeant Alicandro's family, for the dedication of the MEPS ceremony room to the fallen Marine. Sergeant Alecandro took the oath of enlistment at the MEPS in 2000, when it was located in Springfield. The Marine died in a car accident while stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
