Spotlights illuminate Westover Air Reserve Base's C-5s to ensure security of the aircraft, July 7, 2012. Since 1987, Westover has been participating in worldwide humanitarian relief efforts and war operations with the cargo and troop transport, the C-5 Galaxy.). A C-5 with a cargo load of 270,000 pounds can fly 2,150 nautical miles, offload, and fly to a second base 500 nautical miles away from the original destination without aerial refueling.
