The Patriot Wing has long been a leader in Air Force excellence, but with the debut of its 3-D virtual C-5 tour the base is ahead of its time.

“There are very few systems like this, which creates an intensely realistic experience for the viewer of actually walking through a C-5 and looking around,” said Tony Healy, the owner of Capture, a visual marketing firm that specializes in producing 3-D virtual tours of real estate properties. “I’ve done a mega yacht before, but this is the first I’ve ever heard of an aircraft being processed by the system.”

Healy and his assistant, David DalNegro, took a total of eight hours to plot out every square inch of the C-5. They positioned a square camera with multiple lenses at points separated by a few feet, and after clearing the area, the camera would remotely complete a 360-degree spin capturing images in a near 180-degree angle.

“Think of Google map’s virtual feature on steroids,” Healy said.
