WESTOVER AMONG 31 AF RESERVE LOCATIONS AFFECTED BY FORCE STRUCTURE REALIGNMENTS

WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, Mass. - The Air Force has announced an increase in 13 civilian positions with Westover's 439th Airlift Wing isochronal (ISO) inspection work force.

The 439th AW is the host unit at Westover with C-5 transport jets. The increase of 13 civilians to support regionalized C-5 isochronal inspections are being added to the existing 23 positions already assigned to Westover's ISO dock.

The ISO dock regionalization took place at Westover in December 2006, when the Air Force chose Westover as one of the three regional ISO centers for the C-5 fleet. Presently, a mix of nearly 80 military and civilian workers team up at Westover to service the fleet of C-5s, which are the largest aircraft in the Air Force.

The Air Force plans to change manpower authorizations and retire some of its older aircraft, according to a fiscal 2010 force structure realignment announced June 25.

The realignment supports the FY10 President's Budget Request. Unrelated to the FY 10 force structure realignment, the Air Force Reserve's end strength will grow from 67,400 to 69,500. This increase in manpower authorizations in FY 10 represents approximately 2,100 Airmen for emerging mission areas such as cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, unmanned aerial systems and the nuclear enterprise.

The Air Force outlined changes at 30 other Air Force Reserve Command locations and said some of the numbers are subject to change.
