Westover crew flies third Haiti relief mission

A third C-5 mission left Westover the night of Jan. 17 with a 24,000-pound fire engine bound for Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla.
Also a board were about 15 aerial port Air Force reservists assigned to Westover's 42nd APS.

The aerial port reservists are scheduled to be at Homestead for about two weeks, to assist with the massive relief effort for the people of Haiti going on at the base.

An aircrew with the 439th Airlift Wing here flew Westover's first humanitarian mission Friday afternoon to support the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

The aircrew, with Westover's 337th Airlift Squadron, took off from Westover at about 1 p.m. for Dover Air Force Base, Del. The crew is scheduled to pick up a tactical airlift control element team at Dover and take it to Homestead Air Reserve Base, Fla. The team will then be flown from Homestead to Haiti on another aircraft. The Westover crew is scheduled to begin its overseas mission with a stop in New Jersey after taking off from Florida.

The Air Force Reserve is participating in a swift and coordinated relief effort to save lives and alleviate human suffering in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake. Air Force Reserve airlift capability enables the US to respond immediately to any disaster domestically or worldwide.

A C-5 from Westover left Saturday morning and brought forkliftsto Homestead after stopping at Dobbins ARB, Ga.

Information on any additional Westover participation in the relief effort will be provided as soon as it becomes available.
