The past fiscal year saw the collective efforts of Westover's 439th Maintenance Group contribute to an overall 3.6 percent C-5B mission capable rate increase Air Force-wide throughout 2009. The increase is attributable to the MXG team pushing up the mission-capable average 22 percent, pulling the entire Air Force C-5B fleet effort up, said Col. Theron Davis, assigned to headquarters Air Force Reserve Command logistics.
The mission-capable rate standard for C-5s is 75 percent.
"Our crews had this rate hovering between 65 and 86 percent by early 2009," said Chief Master Sgt. Joseph DiMartino, maintenance superintendent of the 439th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron. "These men and women follow strict guidelines and checklists, and it is these highly-skilled and dedicated technicians at Westover that go above and beyond to ensure that the aircraft is ready to fly," the chief said. "There is a sense of pride with the quality of maintenance."
Sixteen C-5B airlifters are assigned to Westover. The first arrived in June 2006.
