Westover Bowling Center offers out of this world experience Published June 27, 2010 By Andre Bowser 439 Airlift Wing Public Affairs WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, Mass. -- If E.T. phoned home first, his next call was to the base bowling alley. The nostalgic extraterrestrial would have felt at home amid the 35 newly installed laser light machines, which help to transform the center into a cosmic scene. Mike Ferguson, the center's manager, said the new light system was recently installed and is used during Cosmic Bowling on Friday and Saturday nights. "We're doing a lot of things including a summer promotion with prizes," Ferguson said. While the laser lights are made highly visible with the use of a smoke machine, Ferguson assured that avid bowlers won't find it too difficult to hit their marks. Novice bowlers can expect a boost, too, when new bumpers get installed in the center, Ferguson said. "Right now we only have bumpers on a few of the lanes, but once we finish in July every lane will have bumpers," he said of the device that saves novice bowlers from suffering the embarrassing fate of gutter balls. Christina Udas, a marketing assistant, said patrons of the center could also look forward to winning a gift basket filled with beach accessories, and later in the summer season they'll get a chance to win a cool grill kit. "All they have to do is come here and bowl and get their tickets punched, " she said, adding that the center always has its staple promotions, such as birthday party packages and other event specials. As for the summer promotion to win the gift basket prizes, the ticket each bowler receives touts the slogan, "Beat the Summer Heat," along with the promise, "the more times you play, the more chances you have to win."
