AF civilian hiring process to change for applicants Published Oct. 29, 2010 By 439th AW Public Affairs WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, Mass. - -- Beginning Nov. 15, the application procedure for Air Force civilian jobs will change. In an effort to simplify and standardize civilian hiring across the Air Force, the Department of Defense announced a series of changes under the title, Air Force Single Staffing Tool. After Nov. 15, USAJOBS.gov will serve as the single location for all internal and external applicants. Jobs will no longer post at AFPC's website. Also, only active vacancies will be posted (under the old system, some jobs are listed which aren't open). Having USAJOBS.gov serve as the focal point for all openings "creates a one-stop shop for all applicants," said Joseph McDaneld, Westover civilian personnel officer. The new recruitment process will require current Air Force civilians to apply for vacant positions using a resume' . This is the same process other DoD components already use. Applicants will be notified at four separate stages during the process: when the application is received, when they're rated qualified or not, whether they're referred, and whether they're selected. These changes will be Air Force-wide, except for 12 stateside bases: Arnold AFS, Brooks City-Base, Edwards AFB, Eglin AFB, Hanscom AFB, Hill AFB, Hurlburt Field, Kirtland AFB, Tinker AFB, Robins AFB, Wright-Patterson AFB, and Luke AFB. These bases will not transition to the Single Staffing Tool in November. All current Air Force employees interested in employment at these bases will continue self-nominating using AFPC Secure Civilian Employment website. "The new system allows applicants to be reviewed using the same evaluation methods," said Mr. McDaneld. The website at USAJOBS.gov gives tutorials on job searches, announcements, and, resume writing tips. The changes stem from a Presidential Executive Order designed to simplify and expedite civilian hiring throughout the federal government. Mr. McDaneld plans to conduct resume' writing training at Westover in mid-November. Firm dates and times will be made available as soon as possible.
