Department of Defense Operations Security officials identified a tracking vulnerability that the social networking website Facebook has instituted.

Facebook automatically tracks and posts your sign-on location, which could lead to personal and operational security problems.

Officials recommend that members disable the "Places I Checked Into" application on Facebook.

Here's how:
There are three settings you must change to completely disable this application.
Disable "Places I check into" and "Include me in 'People Here Now' after I check in."
1. Click on your "Account" tab, then click ''Privacy Settings"' and "Customize."
2. Beside the heading "Places I check into," click "Custom" and choose "Only Me." Then "Save Settings."
3. Under the heading "Include me in 'People Here Now' after I check in," make sure the box is unchecked (if not, click "disable").
Disable "Friends can check me into places."
1. Click "Edit Settings."
2. Choose "Disabled" and click "Okay."

Disable the application from automatically posting your location.
1. Go back to the first page "Privacy Settings." At the bottom of the screen you'll see a section "Applications and Websites." Click there.
2. Make sure that the boxes are unchecked for "Current Location" and "Places I checked in to" and click "Save Changes."
