Devastating weather

Severe thunderstorms, including a large downdraft of heavy winds called a macroburst, hit the area July 26 with winds of up to 100 mph, leaving one dead in Chicopee, downed trees and power lines, and a twisted C-5 model at the front gate. The force of the wind knocked the model off its pedestal. Just last week, Tech. Sgt. Daniel LaBelle and Staff Sgt. Malcolm Brown, 439th Maintenance Squadron sheet metal shop, gave the miniature Galaxy a new paint job with actual C-5 paint left over from its real counterparts on the nearby flight line. Before the destruction, the C-5 model was only lacking the lettering and markings of a C-5 to be complete and was awaiting a special paint that was expected to arrive later this week.
