The 439th Airlift Wing (439 AW) is the Headquarters for subordinate unit-equipped C-5B flying, maintenance and support groups and squadrons. With a commitment to conducting its mission in a responsible manner that protects human health, natural resources, and the environment, the 439 AW provides command direction, planning, training, staff supervision and management of unit personnel and resources in the operation of strategic airlift and air refueling missions in the support of Presidential and Secretary of Defense objectives to ensure installation preparedness and global readiness of all reservists. 2. It is the policy of Westover ARB to continue the implementation of an environmental management system (EMS) that will: a. Align with the 439 AW mission to actively support national objectives on a global scale with ready, mobility forces; b. Ensure environmental compliance and resource conservation, prevent pollution, and continually improve the management system; c. Integrate planning, by including goals and targets that reduce environmental impacts and support mission priorities; d. Develop methods to assure attainment of our goals and targets, and training to assure individual competence and responsibility; e. Create procedures for self-evaluation and corrective action; f. Assure that senior leadership periodically reviews the management system, recommends improvements and publishes the review; g. Include resource requirements for EMS in the budget process; and h. Share information with external stakeholders on environmental performance against goals, objectives, and targets. 3. The Westover ARB EMS policy is aligned with Department of Defense environmental goal to integrate into all core business areas robust environmental systems that sustain compliance, avoid risk and pollution, and promote effective interactions among the DoD Components, other nations' militaries, and industry. It is also aligned with the Air Force commitment to continually improve mission performance and systematically identify and reduce the Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health risks and costs that arise from our mission activities; and also with the Air Force Reserve Command commitment to continually improve environmental management systems that ensure compliance, prevent pollution, and promote resource conservation. 4. As the installation commander, I hereby appoint the Environmental Flight Chief (439 MSG/CEV) as the technical coordinator for the EMS. Within its roles and responsibilities, this position covers the overall implementation of the EMS tools that are most practical and beneficial to Westover ARB. 5. The 439 AW leadership supports the integration of sound environmental principles into our daily decisions and actions.
