James Bishop 439th Airlift Wing Public Affairs WESTOVER AIR RESERVE BASE, Mass. -- Wing leadership gathered Friday, April 26, to commemorate Westover's 17th annual Arbor Day Ceremony by planting three flowering dogwood trees beside the front entrance of the airfield operations building. "Massachusetts is one of just a handful of states with a Tree City USA on an air force base - Westover Air Force Base, the largest Air Force reserve base in the country," according to the Arbor Day Foundation website. Massachusetts has 137 Tree City USA communities. "The largest Tree City USA in Massachusetts is Boston, population 645,169; the smallest is Westover Air Force Base, population 1,200," according to the Arbor Day Foundation. "Westover works hard to be a good steward of the federal land entrusted to our care. Arbor Day is an excellent way to let people know how much we value the environment we work, train and recreate in," said Col. Steven Vautrain, 439th Airlift Wing commander.
