Stephanie Smith, Key Spouse Co-Chair, is credited with revitalizing the base Key Spouse program by continuing to recruit and train new members. When reservists in the wing were mobilized in 2010, she worked with other program members to contact the families of deployed and mobilized reservists. Smith is married to Lt. Col. This 439th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, enlisted in 1999. "My father, who is now retired from active-duty Air Force, was a C-5 crew chief. The exposure to his career field influenced me to follow in his footsteps," SSgt. Boutin said. For three years, the sergeant was a "flying crew chief" and traveled worldwide. Somewhere Over the Runway

Westover's flight line hosts not only the Patriot Wing's 16 C-5Bs but also a re-engined Dover C-5M model, far left, May 25. The modernization of the C-5 boasts upgraded engines that deliver 22 percent more thrust, 30 percent shorter take-off roll and 58 percent faster climb rate, which allow cargo to be carried over longer distances without refueling. Lance Cpl. Marlon Wesh, Marine Wing Support Squadron 472 Detachment Bravo, joined the Marine Corps in December 2008. He is an administration specialist, ensuring pay and entitlements are met for fellow marines. "It's stressful enough when you're deployed, and worrying about whether or not you're being paid or tracking your benefits is unnecessary stress. So I make sure that when any Marine walks into our office it isn't because we messed up," LCpl. Wesh said. "I always knew that at some point I wanted to be in the military. I don't know why, but the service just called to me," he said.
