Aircraft Loadmasters custom load aircraft before any flight. From calculating proper weight distribution to providing for passenger comfort throughout the flight, these specialists ensure everything and everyone is safe and secure on flights all over the world.

We sat down with Senior Master Sgt. Ryan Hellier, 337th Airlift Squadron Loadmaster,  and he discussed why he has chosen to remain a loadmaster for many years during his career.

“I think it’s a great job,” said Hellier. “Seeing the world is a pretty good incentive.”

Hellier said he has been to more than 60 countries due to being a part of the flight crew.

Aside from the traveling, Hellier said he also appreciates the friendships and opportunities this job has given him within the Air Force, and even in his civilian career.

“It opens up a ton of doors,” said Hellier.

The job of a loadmaster is crucial to mission success, which brings Hellier a great sense of satisfaction.

“I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment, and being a part of the overall mission,” said Hellier.
